futbol, critical mass.

Friday, September 26th 2008: Friday was an awesome day. I had a 15 minute Spanish class because we just had individual meetings with our teacher. Afterwards...hung out for a while, dining halled it up, rode towards college green around 4 and found out that I was an hour early for Critical Mass. All the signs I had seen said 4 pm! They lied! So Maggie met me up near Court Street and we hung out for an hour. A ton of people showed up at 5 for critical mass. We met at the monument on college green. It was so nice to meet some new people and to ride in critical mass again. We went up a few super steep inclines, but that comes with Athens.

(Thanks for taking the photo Jim!)

Saturday, September 27th 2008: Saturday morning I walked to Court street and took some photos of the Homecoming parade. It was really crowded, and super nice! I walked around for a bit. Didn't get too many photos. I am still having some hesitation taking photos of people, but this should be eased over time. After the parade ended I went and checked out a 200mm fixed 2.8 lens. Jim and I met his mom and brother and after taking some things up to his room we headed out to Columbus. There we watched and photographed Jim's sister's soccer game. It was awesome! I got some pretty neat shots. It was my first real experience with shootings sports while having a good quality lens and an even better camera. There are some of the photos I took, let me know what you think!

haha!
no classes tomorrow, just a meeting with my teacher. Then hanging out and Critical Mass, Athens style at 4 pm. Then...we don't have any idear! Saturday is a busy, busy day. Waking up and shooting at the parade with a few people, then going to Columbus with Jim and his mom and sister and brother for a soccer game. Sunday...who knows!

photo shootin'

Jim and I met tonight with a group of other photoj students at a coffee shop. It's been really helpful getting to know other people who are more experienced with this major and interesting to see where others stand who are in my grade. This is definitely going to be a heck of a fun time. I've been seeing more and more opportunities that are available to me. I just need to go out there and take advantage of them!

Things I've Learned in College So Far

-Staying up late/waking up early is the only way to go (reinforced).
-I am actually a semi-productive person when it comes to school work.
-People are good.
-People are bad.
-Meal plans are a waste of money.
-I have too much crap.
-I would rather live out of a backpack.
-Quality cameras are WONDERFUL.
-Canon's 24-70 f/2.8 lens is so, so good.

-The necessity of a creative mind.
-Change is never a terrible thing.
-Yet many people probably haven't changed.
-It's not all about the partying for a lot of people (I thought I was going to be the only one, phew!)
-There are only teeny differences between Central's and college academics.
-I love photojournalism.
-I hate learning communities (waste of time).
-It's important to change your bike chain every few years (as I was riding mine snapped in half, yikes!).
-The people in my Spanish class actually want to be there and learn. WOW! What a difference.
-Not to stop talking to random people. Connections are always good.

mother...

here is my schedule.

Homework never stops being lame. As of now it's been a lot easier to do then high school assignments. Much more justifiable. If that makes any sense. Classes are going well, nothing is too tough, yet. Spanish is challenging, we get a lot of assignments. It's much different then high school Spanish. People actually want to be there, thankfully.

It's only been 1 week of classes. How strange! Everything is going by so slow, with the exception of the weekends. So far Jimmy and I have knocked off about 5 movies from our list. Boondock Saints, Amelie, Bottle Rocket, the Royal Tenenbaums, and last night we started LOTR 1 but we have an hour left because we were too sleepy! The list is never ending. Yay!

haaaay from ohio.(jacque took this!)

Classes start for me tomorrow, Tuesday. That's right, no class Monday! woop!

Sorry I've been out of contact for a while. I've been trying to acquaint myself with the people and area surrounding OU. Photos of my dorm and Minnesota will be up shortly. I am enjoying myself though, immensely. Tomorrow I have 4 classes. Ay! I am basically (besides a few short breaks) in class from 8-5. I have Public Speaking, Advanced Spanish Communication and Composition, Vico 120 and Vico 221. It should be a good time. I don't know how much I am feeling an 8 am public speaking class. Eh.

So as for my adventure into the great outdoors. It was AMAZING. Ah. I'll do an in depth post once I get these photos done. Oi!

The past few days I have been hanging out with a bunch of people! We went the Activities fair (I found the critical mass people!!!), out to dinner and lunch, walked around the campus. As for today...I met up with Jim and Maggie and we tried to find people from the New Adventures Program. After our unsuccessful search we went to Chubb hall so I could switch times of my class. They ended up telling me I had to do it online. Ay! So then Jim and I road our bikes to Krogers (that may be how it is spelled). I got some fruits and veggies and other lovely vegan things. We did a little adventuring on our way back and explored the Athens skate park on bikes. The full pipe is sweet.

Hmm...after we ended up walking around for a while, we went to the dining hall 7 minutes late and they were closed. Boo! Hung out in my dorm for a bit. After Jim went to class I cleaned my room. It looks splendid. I went to see if I could switch another class but the teacher was missing. I went to the library for a bit and then met up with Maggie. We explored the campus looking for a cool piece of debris that she could use to make into a sculpture. After rummaging through a trash can near the art building we found a fire poker and a scary halloween mask that is now hanging from my dorm room smoke detector. We ate dinner with Jim and Dan and Jacque. It was pretty good! My first dining hall meal ever. I have to eat two meals a day. It's so much, agh! I wish I got a plan with less. I played frisbee after that with Maggie and Jim and after that we laid on a blanket in front of my dorm and watched Amelie on Jim's Mac. So good. It was a beautiful night. We stayed out there for a bit after the movie was over. I came back to my dorm, talked to Blunder on the phone until it started lightning outside, went back in and edited photos until really late. I went to bed when the storm started to get bad. Scurrry!

Update: I woke up this morning to another thunderstorm and walked to class with Melanie and another girl at 730 am ish. Public Speaking was boooooring. I decided later on today to drop the class. Phew! No more of that!
This is all for now. I kind of forgot about this entry. It's Friday now, like Saturday morning actually. Today I had a class that ended at 1 and that was it! 4 day weekend-ish, sick. We ate lunch at the dining hall, Maggie, Jacque, Jimmy and me. We did some other stuff, hung out, stayed up until 4 am watching Bottle Rocket (I did not like it) and the Royal Tenenbaums (always good).
